Andy Bennett commented over 5 years ago. Can these go in a home compost or will they only break down in an industrial compost facility? Also, why are they $21 on grabone and $20 on your website?

Niki Bailey commented over 5 years ago. What's the difference between degradable and compostable? What happens to them if they end up in landfill?
Emma from GrabOne Store commented over 5 years ago. Our friends from Ecobagsnz will be back soon to help you with this Niki :)
Jaspreet Kohli commented over 5 years ago. Hi Niki,
Degradable and compostable can be confusing terms.
Degradable bags are made from "normal" polyethylene, they are still a petroleum-based plastic bag but contain a degradable additive known as TDPA (totally degradable plastic additives) manufactured by a company called EPI. This helps the bags break down into smaller pieces when exposed to sunlight, heat and oxygen.

Fully certified compostable bags begin decomposing from the first day in a compost pile and are completely gone within 90 days leaving no harmful residues in the process.
These are more environmentally sustainable than degradable bags.
Jaspreet Kohli commented over 5 years ago. In regards to Landfill, they act like any other food waste. For disposal, naturally we recommend composting if it's available, compostable items are designed to be composted in a compost heap.
When compostable products, or any other organic waste ends up in a landfill, it needs to be exposed to moisture, oxygen and bacteria in order to biodegrade. However, if compostable products are placed in a landfill where oxygen is available, they will decompose at a rate similar to other biodegradable materials in the same setting and will not leach harmful toxins into waterways, unlike traditional plastics.
