Does the top sectoin come apart and can it double as a chimnea? Vulnerable to rain.....can this be improved by painintg with a glaze? Thanks

dumb question probably but the shorter version - do they go on top of a fire? or is the fire at the back inside it? - cannot see the shelf where pizza stone would go above it so thought it is at base level.
